Weekly Update for week ending 2/26/2011

I had a migraine for most of this week so I didn't write anything. It was really a wasted week.

I had an idea for a short story, but no progress. I think that I'm going to concentrate on finishing the outline for my new novel. I also plan to finish reading First Time Dead Vol 1 and post a review. I'm about halfway through. To be honest, it doesn't seem as good as volume 2, but that could be a reflection of my mood. Maybe I'll start over.

Until next week. I remain Dane Grannon.

Weekly Update for week ending 2/19/2011

I increased the size of my outline to around 51,000 characters. The story may be longer than I planned. This is a good thing.

I haven't been writing as much this week. My energies have been spent working on reviews of First Time Dead Vol 1 and First Time Dead Vol 2. I'm very happy with the contents.

Last night I had an idea for a short story. The deadline for Chivalry is Dead is Feb 28, so I don't know if I can finish it by then. There is an upcoming anthology called First that it may fit in. I'll try to put out a rough draft then see if I can put it in shape.

Until next, I remain. Dane Grannon

Weekly Update for week ending 2/12/2011

Sales of Escape From Hope continue at a slow but somewhat steady pace. My publisher is not concerned. She says that the purpose is to establish some name recognition for when Lucky Streak is published.

I am considering getting a dealer table at ConQuesT on Memorial Day weekend. I talked to May December Publications and they will try to have my book available by then if I decide to try it. I will also want to try and sell some of the other fine books from this growing small press. I've never done anything like this before, so I requested information from ConQuesT. My publisher is also going to send an email to them.

I am still on a cooling off week for the graphic novel script. I'll look at it again starting a week from tomorrow.

The outlining for the Unnamed Sequel is going well. 39,000 words are accounted for. I know the first eight chapters and most of the last eight. The problem lies in the middle arc. There are many details that need to be provided to connect the pieces. I need to come up with "villain" besides the zombies for this section.

That is all for this week. Until next time, I remain, Dane Grannon

Beta Readers enjoyed Lucky Streak

Two beta readers finished Lucky Streak yesterday. One described it as a page turner. The other said she cried at the end. I rate this a success.

I was the third caller on The Walking Dead TV Podcast

I start talking around the 21 minute mark. It was exciting. They did some editing.

I was a caller on The Walking Dead TV Podcast

Today I did something that I never thought I would do. I called in to The Walking Dead TV Podcast show. I think that I'm either the second or third caller. I'm pretty sure that my normally squeaky speaking voice was at an even higher pitch than normal. Needless to say, I was very nervous. Those guys are great though. It should be available on Thursday or so. The Walking Dead TV Podcast

Weekly Update for week ending 2/05/2011

I finished the rough draft of the first part of the graphic novel. I'm going to let it sit for a few weeks before reading it and realizing what a piece of crap it is. I don't know about you, but every rough draft I write is awful.

Last week a few more people purchased Escape From Hope. Sales are disappointing but what should I expect? I am an unknown author sans fan base.  Perhaps sales will increase over time.

I've been in a foul mood all week, so I haven't critted anything for my friends. I hope they understand.

On the writing front. Yesterday I started working on a companion novel to Lucky Streak. So far I've outlined about 17,000 words of material. The action scenes defined are in many ways the easiest to describe. Almost all were mentioned in Lucky Streak, but they are being told from a different POV in this as of yet unnamed story.

My protagonist is surprising me. He has depth that I didn't imagine when he appeared before. I'll need to tread carefully when describing the effects of the Zombie Apocalypse on him. I hope he appears heroic and not pathetic. This will be considerably darker than Lucky Streak.

I've rambled enough. It is time to work on my outline. Until next week, I remain Dane Grannon.
